About Bluebirds Bakehouse
Bluebirds Bakehouse was founded in 2013 by Katherine, an Artist/Art teacher turned professional cake decorator, based out of her home kitchen in South East Kent.
Katherine has always loved baking from as long as she can remember, regularly baking with her mum and twin sister during school holidays and for family occasions. Katherine kept this up as a hobby while she studied Fine Art at University and often baked for friends, family and housemates. Katherine discovered a passion for cake decorating in 2011 after doing a beginners Sugarcraft course at Kent Adult Education.
After starting a family and as her love of all things cake grew, Katherine was inspired by programmes on TV such as “Ace of Cakes” and “Cake Boss” so she made the decision to leave her teaching career behind to pursue her passion for cake design.
Katherine went on to complete all 3 modules of The PME Professional Diploma (Sugarpaste, Royal Icing and Sugar Flowers) gaining a PME Masters Certificate in Cake Decorating and Confectionary Arts in May 2014.
Katherine is excited to share her passion for design and love of cake decorating with her customers to create a truly bespoke cake. She continually strives to improve her skills and discover unique ways to make her designs come to life. She is passionate about colour, texture and combining other artistic techniques such as painting into her cake decorating.
Katherine is a member of The British Sugarcraft Guild and is fully insured, she hold a Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and following an inspection by Dover District Council Bluebirds Bakehouse was awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 (Very Good) http://ratings.food.gov.uk/business/en-GB/591649/Bluebirds-Bakehouse-Dover
